40 things I am grateful for
November 22, 2007
With Thanksgiving (an American holiday where we give thanks, for those who didn’t know) today, I decided to come up with a list of 40 things I am grateful for. Why the number 40? 40 is the most common number in the Bible. When something significant occurs in the Bible, it is represented by the number 40. For example, in the story of Noah, it floods for 40 days and 40 nights. (For other instances such as this in the Bible, click here.)
Even though I’m not Catholic, considering 40 is such an important number to Catholics, I thought it would be neat to come up with a list of 40 things I am thankful for. Now, I even made this harder on myself by restricting myself. Instead of naming every family member, I only said my family. (God knows my whole 40 list could just be my family.) Instead of naming every food, I listed only food and so forth. Here is what I came up with. Some are self explanatory, others have background information.
- Family—Where would I be without them?
- Dog—She always cheers me up.
- Books—Gets me out of the real world.
- Gum—I have an odd addiction to gum.
- iPod—My music control. I CAN NOT live without this.
- TV—Provides me with shows like Heroes and Gossip Girl.
- Food—Survival instinct, I’m fortunate enough to have this while people are starving everyday.
- Purell—God knows how many viruses I would get without this.
- Computer—What am I using now to blog? My computer.
- Planes—Without the Wright Brothers, we’d still be taking much longer journeys than now necessary.
- Fashion—My guilty pleasure.
- Home—Everyone needs a safe place to live.
- Treadmill—Some people need to stay in shape and quit lazing around (this is intended to myself.)
- Furniture—Wouldn’t it suck if you had to stand all day long?
- Light—I need an escape from the dark.
- Sharpies—Oh, the joy of Sharpies!
- Pictures—Capture the memories.
- Faith—Without faith, you can’t go on.
- Heat—I am so fortunate to have a heated home to live in.
- Water—Everyone needs water.
- Trees—They help us breathe.
- Wal-Mart—I get pretty much everything here.
- Money—I need money in order to buy things.
- Health—Luckily for me, I have no diseases and am pretty darn healthy.
- Toilet–*ahem*everyone (including Nick Jonas) at the end of the day poops.
- Hair Straighter—My hair is a twister without this.
- Vacation—I love seeing new places!
- Education—I can read and write, which is so much more than people in third world countries.
- Personal Hygiene—I’m so happy I can get access to fresh water everyday to be able to take care of my body.
- Cell Phone—My instant connection to the rest of the world.
- Communication—We should be thankful that we can communicate with people who speak different languages than us, imagine what a world we would live in without being able to communicate.
- Music—the way I get out anger issues.
- Smell of cookies—I adore the smell of fresh made cookies.
- All five senses—I can hear, I can see. Some people don’t even have that.
- Printer—School projects.
- Memory Stick—See above.
- Privacy—My parents respect me, and I get privacy more than other people (eg; abusive parents)
- Fire extinguisher—Blow that fire out!
- Colors—There are so many beautiful things God has granted us like color that people just go on life without thinking about.
- New ideas—We’d never advance without new ideas.
What are some things you are grateful for?
(In other news, I’m getting hosted at fatedlife.com I’ve already started a layout, I just need to figure out how to install WordPress onto the site–apparently its much harder installing in onto the site–and then I’ll be good to go. Thanks so much for all the many hosting offers, you guys are absolutely great.)
